Also known as a Dutch baby pancake, this is a sweet popover that is loved by many! It is known for being made of eggs, flour, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and fruit, in this case apples. For those of you that apple pie or apple turnovers or apple pastries of any sort, you are going to love this! An article in Sunset magazine notes that these pancakes were first apparent in the early 1900s, in Seattle. Currently, you can usually find these pancakes served at diners and cafes all over Oregon and even in parts of New England!
What You Will Need To Make the Apple Cider Syrup
5 cups apple cider
2 tablespoons butter, unsalted
1 ½ tablespoons of light brown sugar
1 ½ teaspoons of vanilla extract
1 teaspoon of cinnamon

1 cup milk
1 cup all purpose flour
1 ½ teaspoons of vanilla extract
¼ teaspoon of salt
1 tablespoon of cinnamon
2 large Pink Lady Apples, peeled and sliced
1 ½ teaspoons of light brown sugar
How To Make Apple Dutch Baby
To Make the Syrup:
- In a large pan, add the apple cider, light brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and butter.
- Put this sauce pan over high heat until it is boiling.
- Then, reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10 minutes or until it is thick and the syrup is at the desired consistency.

- In a large skillet, add the 2 tablespoons of butter and set on medium heat. Add in the 2 Pink Lady apples, sliced.
- Then, add 4 pinches of brown sugar.
- Stir often so that the apples become soft.
- Once they are soft and cooked, put them in a bowl to sit.
- Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.
- In a bowl, add eggs, milk, flour, vanilla extract, salt, and 1 tablespoon of cinnamon. Whisk it all together so that everything is mixed well.
- Put the skillet in the oven and heat for 10 minutes, so that it is very hot.
- Then remove the skillet from the oven and quickly add 2 tablespoons of butter.
- Next, quickly add the apples to the middle of the skillet.
- Last, pour the milk and egg mixture over the top of the apples in the skillet.
- Bake in the oven until it gets puffy and golden or roughly 16 minutes.
- Remove from oven.
- Pour syrup all over.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
