Trying to Save Money? 5 Foods You Don’t Need To Buy Organic

Buying organic food is the best way to go because it spares your body from loads of pesticides that are usually found in most produce. So, by not taking in these chemicals, your body will thrive more since you can get essential nutrients from these foods without any risks on your health. However, the only thing that may hold some people back from purchasing organic fruits and vegetables is the expensive price. Nevertheless, there are some foods that you do not really need to buy organic, so you can save some money. The following are some of those foods you can buy at the market, which are generally safe to eat even if they are not organic.

1. Sweet Peas

What’s great about sweet peas is the fact that they are unlikely to contain residue from pesticide because their pods protect them from these chemicals. However, what you need to be aware of is the fact that a huge number of peas are genetically-modified. This means, genes of kidney beans are inserted into the DNA of peas, which creates a type of protein that typically serves as a pesticide. Unfortunately, eating genetically-modified peas can compromise your immune system, so it is best to steer clear of this type of peas.

2. Papayas

It may be possible for pesticide residue to stick on the skin of the papaya. Yet, you are not likely to ingest the chemicals unless you also eat the skin. So, the best thing to do is to wash the papaya thoroughly before slicing it. In fact, you may even consider growing your own papaya since this fruit tree is very easy to grow. They thrive well on tropical countries, and it should not take more than a year before you can have a good bunch of papayas harvested right off the tree in your yard.

3. Sweet Corn

It is quite a challenge to grow sweet corn, so most farmers use pesticides to preserve the quality of the corn. However, you will find it comforting to know that these chemicals are least likely to be absorbed on the kernels since there is a thick covering protecting them. The only risk, though, is that most corns sold in the market are genetically-modified. GMO corns have been discovered to cause food allergies, tumors and infertility that impact your overall well-being.

4. Avocado

Just like with most of the produce in this list, avocados also have a thick skin. This skin is responsible for preserving the interior from pesticides that are often used to grow avocados. Thus, there is no need to go for organic since the chemicals do not penetrate inside.

5. Sweet Potatoes

You can enjoy munching on tasty sweet potatoes without the risks of pesticides. This nutrient-packed food is loaded with beta-carotene and vitamin A, which are responsible for good eyesight and superior immune system.

Bottom Line

These are just some of the foods that you can eat without much risks from pesticides. In fact, about 90 percent of produce including pineapple, avocado, mango, asparagus and onions have been sampled, and these were discovered to be free from massive pesticide residues. So, these foods may be safe to eat even when not organic, and that should save you more money along the way.
