The good people in the Northwest are experiencing some pretty bad news. Dozens of Chipotles in Washington and Oregon have closed due to an E.Coli scare.
According to CNN, 43 stores have been temporarily shutdown after multiple complaints of what could be E.Coli poisoning were reported. “We immediately closed all of our restaurants in the area out of an abundance of caution, even though the vast majority of these restaurants have no reported problems,” said Chipotle spokesman Chris Arnold in a statement. “We are working with health department officials to determine the cause of this issue.”
Believe it or not, by law, Chipotle did not have to close its stores.
So far, there have been 22 cases reported collectively in the two states, “I’ve never gotten sick like this,” Chris Collins of Portland, Oregon told CNN affiliate KATU. “The excruciating pain in my abdomen was something I’ve never experienced. It feels like your guts are being ripped out.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, common symptoms of E.Coli poisoning include stomach cramps, vomiting and diarrhea.
Anyone who has eaten at Chipotle in those areas in the past two weeks, and is experiencing these or similar symptoms should head to their doctor’s office immediately.
In other E.Coli news, over the weekend, All American Meats Inc in Omaha, NE recalled 167,427 pounds of ground beef over E.Coli concerns.
Let’s face it people, it’s not safe to eat anything, even cucumbers.
