Great Grilled Tuna Recipe

Want to mix up dinner time this week?

Instead of grilling burgers, steaks or chicken try to grill delicious tuna. Tuna is incredibly nutritious for you. It’s jam packed with omega-3 and DHA. The plus side is that it’s fairly easy to prepare and pairs well with a lot of various veggies and grains.

Should you eat it Raw or Cooked?

Almost all tuna lovers will tell you that it’s best served raw. Tuna dries out very quickly if you leave it out too long or over cook it. Tuna is a lean fish without very little fat which makes it really easy to cook. All you have to do is grill the outside and leave the center raw for a fantastic texture and flavor.

Some are afraid of eating raw fish, we understand that. When you cook tuna fully you have to make sure you do it perfectly so it doesn’t become over cooked and dry. The trick all the top notch chefs us is to infuse the tuna with extra virgin olive oil and let it soak overnight. Then, you cook the tuna to where it’s slightly pink in the center. This holds all the juicy flavors while preventing it from drying out.

Lemon Grilled Tuna

Salt, garlic, lemon zest and olive oil are the simple ingredients to create a killer grilled tuna filet. This combination paired with fresh tuna has a delicious flavor that pairs well with a fresh salad or served on a warm toasted bun.

Here are the ingredients you will need to get cooking:

1, 4-5 tuna filets ½-1 inch thick

  1. 1 whole lemon
  2. 2-3 whole gloves of garlic
  3. Sea salt
  4. Black pepper
  5. Extra virgin olive oil

Directions

Use a potato peeler to peel the lemon and peel the zest off. You will need this to give the tuna the freshest flavor. Peel and chop the garlic as fine as you can make it and rub each side of the tuna filets with fresh garlic. Sprinkle both sides of each filet with salt and pepper once you have distributed the garlic. Sprinkle the lemon zest all over the filets and place them in an air tight container or bag and let the filets marinade over night.

When you are finally ready to grill the tuna filets, carefully take them out of the fridge while you heat up the grill. The grill should be very hot when you put the marinated filets on. Grill one side until you see the red tuna turn beige about 1/3 of the way up the side. It’s important that you cook and flip the tuna perfectly to avoid over cooking. Remember, it’s perfectly acceptable for the center to be slightly pink. Lastly, grill the other side until you can only see a hint of pink from the side. You are done!

It’s time to enjoy your tuna filets with a freshly chopped salad, or a toasted warm bun.
